That “NASA engineer” air conditioner advert might not be what it claims, North Wales cyber police warn

North Wales Police has warned shoppers to be cautious of online adverts for portable air conditioners making exaggerated claims, as another hot weekend drives demand for cooling products.
The force’s cyber crime team said adverts appearing on platforms including Facebook and YouTube have claimed products are “designed by former NASA engineers” and able to “cool a room in 90 seconds”, alongside offers of large discounts and limited-time deals.
North Wales Police said the Advertising Standards Authority has warned that many of these products fail to live up to their marketing claims and may not perform as advertised.
The force said some consumers have reported receiving low-quality products with little cooling effect, while others have struggled to obtain refunds.
North Wales Police advised shoppers to research the company and read independent reviews before purchasing, and to be wary of exaggerated performance claims.
The force also advised checking that a retailer provides clear contact details and a returns policy, and using secure payment methods that offer buyer protection.
North Wales Police said anyone considering a deal that seems too good to be true should treat it with caution.
More detail on the products involved is available in a BBC article shared by the force.
