Flintshire pub launches walking passport scheme after record turnout

The Druid Inn in Gorsedd has launched a new walking passport scheme after its monthly community walk drew a record turnout.
The pub said more than 55 walkers took part in the walk, its largest to date.
The walk is held on the first Saturday of every month and is organised by the pub’s landlord, Ray Foulder-Jones.
Walkers were given a bacon butty before setting off, and dogs were given home-made bone-shaped snacks made by the pub’s kitchen team.
Mr Foulder-Jones led the walk through Gorsedd and the surrounding countryside.
The event launched a new set of walking maps and a walking passport, offering five scenic routes that begin and end at the pub.
Walkers can collect a physical passport from the bar, complete a route tracked through an app such as OS Maps or Strava, and return to the pub with proof of their journey.
Once verified, participants receive a stamp, and a discount on food or drink once all five routes are completed.
Mr Foulder-Jones said: “We can’t believe the response we’ve had. For me, it has always been about more than just a morning dog walk out. It is about reinforcing what a great local pub has always been for, bringing people together, creating memories, and giving everyone, including the dogs, a very tasty reason to come back.”
The Druid Inn dates back to the 12th century and reopened in March 2024 following a renovation, after being taken on by Pubs Limited, a pub group founded by Jerry Brunning.
The pub is part of the same group as The Swan at Marbury, Basement 85 in Chester, The Hare at Farndon and The Black Bear in Whitchurch.
