Meet the cyber crime fighters putting North Wales on the map

Two members of the North Wales Police cyber crime team have been recognised with prestigious awards at the National Cyber Awards in London.
Special Constable Dwain Barnes was named Cyber Policing Individual of the Year, while Cyber Volunteer Jason Davies received the National Police Chief’s Council Commissioners Choice Award.
North Wales Police said being shortlisted at the UK-wide awards was a major achievement, and both winning their categories was “incredible”.
Since joining the cyber team in December 2022, Special Constable Barnes has volunteered more than 1,000 hours.
He specialises in artificial intelligence, advising police forces and organised crime units across the UK.
He also delivers presentations on emerging AI-related threats and has developed interactive apps and challenges to make cyber security education more engaging.
Jason Davies has volunteered with the cyber team for nearly five years.
His award is selected through a closed process, with nominations made by the National Police Chiefs’ Council and the final choice by the judging panel.
North Wales Police said his contribution had been “immeasurable”, with his expertise helping countless residents and businesses learn how to stay safe online.
A spokesperson for North Wales Police Cyber Crime said the awards recognised “years of hard work and dedication” and thanked both winners for their contribution to communities and businesses across the region.
