Man who reacted with laughing emojis to police appeal is arrested

North Wales Police’s North Flintshire team have confirmed a wanted man is now in custody, after he reacted to their appeal for him with laughing emojis.
The force, known on Facebook as NWP North Flintshire, had appealed for Sion Parry.
In a follow-up post, the team said:
“After we circulated a recent appeal for wanted male Sion Parry, he reacted with laughing emojis.”
“We can confirm he won’t be spending much time on social media today… because he’s currently in police custody.”
The post drew hundreds of comments, with many followers praising the force’s tone and comparing it to Aldi UK’s social media team, known for its own cheeky online style.
North Flintshire police responded to those comparisons in a second post.
“We’ve seen the Aldi UK comparisons to our earlier post,” the team said.
“Sadly, we don’t offer price matching.”
“We do, however, have an excellent track record of matching faces to custody records.”
“Other supermarkets are available, and they all offer very tasty caterpillars… but we prefer donuts.”
The line was a nod to Aldi’s long-running rivalry with Marks & Spencer over their respective caterpillar-shaped cakes, Cuthbert and Colin.
Not every commenter was won over. One follower questioned whether a police force should take such a light-hearted approach to crime, while another queried how long the original appeal had taken to resolve.
