North Wales Police stop 40 vehicles in food delivery driver crackdown

North Wales Police stopped around 40 vehicles in a crackdown on food delivery drivers.
The operation ran on Friday night as part of the force’s Roads Crime Unit enforcement activity.
Nine drivers were reported for having no insurance.
Seven vehicles were seized.
One driver was reported for driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.
Officers also found offences including failing to wear seatbelts and contravening a no entry sign.
A man was arrested after being found to be wanted on warrant.
PC Lauren Jones, of the Roads Crime Unit, said most food delivery drivers in North Wales comply with the law.
She said officers had seen an increase in incidents involving drivers who are not insured or using vehicles that are not roadworthy.
“Driving without insurance is illegal and can have devastating consequences if a collision occurs,” she said.
Jones said drivers had also been arrested on suspicion of drug driving and dealt with for other offences under the “fatal five” campaign, including using mobile phones at the wheel.
She said the operations are designed to identify those breaking the law and protect other road users.
North Wales Police said it is a driver’s responsibility to have the correct insurance, hold the appropriate licence and keep their vehicle roadworthy before driving.
Further guidance on insurance requirements is available from the Motor Insurers Bureau.
