Flintshire Council seeks views on A548 Bagillt Road safety plan

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

Residents, local businesses and community members are being asked for their views on a draft plan to improve walking, wheeling and cycling along the A548 Bagillt Road.

The route covered runs between Greenfield Valley and Pen-y-Maes Road.

Flintshire County Council is working with Walk Wheel Cycle Trust Cymru on the plan, after the local community raised concerns about safety and accessibility along the route.

Wheeling refers to people who use wheelchairs or mobility scooters to get around, alongside walking and cycling.

An in-person workshop takes place on Wednesday 15 July from 4pm to 7pm at the Victorian School, Greenfield Valley Heritage Park.

People who cannot attend can complete an online survey, or send feedback by email or post to Walk Wheel Cycle Trust Cymru.

Paper copies of the survey are also available on request from Walk Wheel Cycle Trust Cymru.

The council first asked the community which parts of the route worked well and which didn’t in November 2024.

That engagement included workshops in local school classrooms and a public workshop at Greenfield Valley Heritage Park, alongside an online and postal survey.

Feedback at that stage raised several issues, including that crossing the A548 Bagillt Road is difficult and unsafe, and that footways are narrow, cluttered and in poor condition.

Residents also said vehicles travel too fast along the route, and that there is a lack of safe, clearly marked routes for walking, wheeling and cycling.

The council said that feedback has been used to develop the current draft plan, and it now wants further community views before the next stage of design work.

Cllr Glyn Banks, Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Streetscene and Transportation, said: “We really want to hear from people who live, work, and travel along the A548 Bagillt Road about what works well, what could work better, and how these proposals could benefit them.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to help shape the future of this route, and I encourage as many people as possible to have their say.”
