Deeside Ice Rink reopens Sunday after six weeks of maintenance

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

Deeside Ice Rink reopens to the public on Sunday 19 July, following six weeks of essential maintenance.

A brand-new ice surface has been prepared ahead of the reopening.

The maintenance programme included removing the previous ice surface and carrying out infrastructure works beneath the rink before the new ice was rebuilt.

North Wales’ only permanent Olympic-sized ice rink will welcome back public skaters, clubs and lessons throughout the summer.

To mark the reopening, operator Gwella is offering 20 per cent off selected public skating sessions until 1 September, with sessions available from £7.60.

Andrew Bentley, Managing Director at Gwella, said:

“Deeside Ice Rink is one of Flintshire’s most unique leisure attractions and an important facility for communities across North Wales.”

“We’re delighted to welcome everyone back onto the ice ahead of the summer holidays. We know the temporary closure disrupted lessons, training and regular visits, but this essential investment will help ensure the rink continues to provide an excellent experience for everyone who uses it.”

Gaynor Clarke, Vice Chair of Deeside Synchronised Skating Club, said:

“We’re looking forward to getting back on the ice at Deeside. While the temporary closure disrupted training, we understand the importance of essential maintenance to protect a facility that’s so important to our club and the wider skating community.”

“With three competitive teams and an inclusive team, we can’t wait to welcome our skaters back and encourage more people to get involved.”

New customers who enrol on Gwella’s Learn to Skate programme before the end of July and begin lessons in August will receive October’s lessons free, subject to promotional terms and conditions.

Public skating sessions can be booked online at gwella.wales.
