Fire at Widnes waste site declared major incident, smoke visible from Deeside

A large fire at a waste facility in Widnes is producing a heavy smoke plume visible from Deeside, with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service declaring a major incident 6pm on Monday 22 June.
Twenty fire engines from Cheshire are at the scene on Everite Road, with additional crews from Lancashire and Greater Manchester also in attendance.
The service’s foam tanker and high volume pump have also been deployed.
The fire involves around 700 tons of waste cardboard inside a single-storey building measuring approximately 50 metres by 50 metres.
