Public meeting called on future of Greenfield Valley fishing pool

Residents, anglers and community groups are invited to a public meeting at Greenfield Valley Heritage Park on 25 June to discuss the future of the Meadow Mill Fishing Pool.
The meeting will be held at the Victorian School, Greenfield Valley, at 7.00pm.
The pool has undergone restoration work since 2023, including the construction of a new access path and fishing pegs and the removal of silt and weed.
Large fish were stocked in 2025.
More than 600 smaller fish were added in 2026 with support from Natural Resources Wales.
The Trust said the additional stocking followed feedback from experienced local anglers, who advised that smaller fish would offer a better introduction to the sport for younger participants.
Community feedback had also identified a need for more activities for younger people in the Holywell and Greenfield area.
Doug Don, Greenfield Valley Ranger, said: “There is still a lot to do to make this a good fishing facility.
“Our main problems at the moment are weed growth now that the weather has warmed up and also silt coming back in and filling the area alongside the fishing pegs which we dredged clear just two years ago.
“We have had a lot of help from volunteers over the past two years giving us their advice and also working on site clearing the weed that was cut last year and planting irises on the pond margins, which are now flowering beautifully.
“We now want to talk about the next steps.”
Greenfield Valley Trust is the charity that works in partnership with Flintshire County Council to manage the Greenfield Valley between Greenfield and Holywell.
The meeting is open to everyone.
