Scam texts claiming unpaid parking fines targeting Flintshire residents, council warns

Flintshire County Council is warning residents to ignore text messages claiming they have an unpaid parking fine, after reports of a scam circulating in the area.
The council says it will never contact residents by text message about an unpaid parking fine or Penalty Charge Notice.
Any text message making that claim is a scam.
Residents who receive one are advised not to click any links in the message, not to provide any personal or payment details, and not to reply.
The warning was issued by Flintshire County Council after residents reported receiving the messages.
Genuine Penalty Charge Notices are issued on the vehicle or sent by post in an official letter.
No UK council or parking operator will contact you by text message to demand payment of a fine.
Scam texts of this type typically direct people to a fake payment website designed to harvest card details or personal information.
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency has separately warned drivers nationally about the same type of scam text message.
If you receive a suspicious parking fine text, you can report it by forwarding it to 7726, a free spam-reporting service operated by UK mobile networks.
If you have already clicked a link or provided payment details, contact your bank immediately and report it to Action Fraud at actionfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040.
Check live fuel prices near you before you set off.
