Connah’s Quay teen to fly to USA to compete for Great Britain in inline hockey

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

A 13-year-old from Connah’s Quay has been selected to represent Great Britain in inline hockey and will travel to the United States in July to compete in two tournaments.

Dexter Parry, who attends Connah’s Quay High School, has been chosen to play for the GB inline hockey team at StateWars in Chicago, where he will wear the national shirt.

He will also compete in Los Angeles at NARCh, one of North America’s largest inline hockey competitions, playing for a team called Desert Rats.

His mother, Ashlee Parry, said the trip would not come cheap.

“He has worked extremely hard to get where he is, and knows this doesn’t come for free,” she said.

Dexter himself is also trying to raise money ahead of the trip.

“In the weeks run up, I am going to be out car washing and weeding gardens to make any extra money I can,” he said.

The family has set up a fundraising page to help cover the cost of flights and tournament fees.

Anyone who wants to support Dexter can donate at gofundme.com/f/help-send-dex-to-gb.
