Father Christmas has presented a member of Penyffordd Beaver Scouts with a Commissioner’s Commendation Award for his bravery following an accident in which he sustained significant injuries, including a fractured skull, back fractures, and facial injuries.

Oscar Billington-Dykes, aged six, is an active member of Penyffordd Beaver Scouts. He enjoys all aspects of Scouting, having achieved several badges and taken part in numerous activities and camps.

During October half term, Oscar was involved in an accident that required him to spend time at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. To date, he has undergone five operations. Despite these challenges, Oscar has displayed remarkable resilience and determination, refusing to let his injuries discourage or worry him.

In recognition of his bravery, Oscar received a Commissioner’s Commendation Award. To make the occasion extra special, his Beaver leaders enlisted the help of Father Christmas to present the certificate, along with some gifts from the Scout group.

Oscar’s mum expressed her gratitude, saying: “We want to say a heartfelt thank you to Oscar’s Beaver group and the whole Penyffordd Scouts community for all the love and support they have shown us since Oscar’s accident. Their kindness has meant the world to our family, and the special visit with the Santa float was just magical. It brought the biggest smile to Oscar’s face and truly lifted his spirits.

“We feel so lucky to be part of such a caring and thoughtful Scouting community. Their support has made a real difference to us during this time, and we’re so grateful to have them all by our side.”
