Civic regalia talks to mark Chester Heritage Festival

As part of the 10th Chester Heritage Festival, members of the public are invited to explore the city’s ceremonial history through two special Civic Regalia Talks at Chester Town Hall.
The sessions will take place at 2pm on Tuesday 3 June and Thursday 5 June. Each will be led by either a Civic Attendant or the Visitor Centre Manager, offering rare insight into the history and symbolism of the regalia used in Chester’s official ceremonies.
The talks will examine the stories behind the city’s treasured ceremonial items, many of which are still used today, and explore their place in Chester’s long civic tradition.
The Lord Mayor of Chester, Councillor Sherin Akhtar, said:
“The Chester Heritage Festival is an opportunity to be fully immersed in a celebration of our city’s rich and diverse past. The Civic Regalia Talks offer a unique experience where one can connect with the traditions that continue to define our civic pride. I would encourage everyone to come along and discover the fascinating stories behind these precious and unique artefacts.”
The Civic Regalia Talks are one of many events taking place as part of the Heritage Festival, which runs annually to highlight the culture and history of Chester and its surrounding area.
Tickets are £5 for adults, with children able to attend for free, making the event suitable for families as well as local history enthusiasts.
Tickets are available at the Chester Visitor Information Centre, next to the Town Hall on Northgate Street. More information is available by calling 01244 405340.
