Chester Zoo to close early on Thursday due to extreme heat forecast

Chester Zoo will close early on Thursday in response to the extreme heat forecast tomorrow.

The organisation confirmed on social media that it will close its doors to the public at 2pm (Thursday, 25 June) for the safety of its visitors and colleagues.

The zoo is open as normal today and Friday. However the decision to close tomorrow has been taken in response to the high temperatures tomorrow.

In a statement, a spokesperson said: “We’re closing early at 2pm on Thursday, 25 June.

“Due to the extreme heat forecast for the afternoon of Thursday 25 June, we’ll be closing early at 2pm for the safety of our visitors and colleagues.

“If you have pre-booked tickets for the zoo, please check your emails. You’ll find all of the details on what to do.”

“We’ll be open as normal on Wednesday and Friday, and at all times, our team of dedicated keepers will, of course, make sure all of the animals and plants are safely cared for.

“We do apologise for any disruption to your plans but we really, really hope you understand.”

Current forecasts show that temperatures could reach up to 35c on Thursday afternoon.

An amber weather warning is in place across large swaths of the country until midnight tomorrow. However temperatures look set to remain in the mid 30s through until Friday.
