Ewloe: St David’s Park road closure from today as Dutch roundabout redesign enters home straight

Drivers face two more spells of road closures around St David’s roundabout in Ewloe, but Flintshire County Council says the works that have caused disruption since January are entering their final phase.
St David’s Park will close from the roundabout from Wednesday 24 June to Friday 27 June, then again from Monday 29 June to Friday 25 July.
Access to Tŷ Dewi Sant, Flintshire County Council’s headquarters on St David’s Park, will be maintained throughout via Cefn y Ddol.
The council said no temporary traffic lights will be used during this phase to help reduce congestion.
The closures are the latest stage of the council’s £900,000 scheme to convert St David’s roundabout to a Dutch-style layout, where vehicles will give way to pedestrians and cyclists at parallel crossings on each arm of the junction.

When complete, people walking and cycling between Ewloe and St David’s Park will have dedicated, protected crossings at one of Flintshire’s busiest road junctions for the first time.
Work began on 25 January and was originally due to finish by mid-May.
The council confirmed in May that on-site engineering difficulties had pushed completion back, though it did not say what the problems involved.
A separate Welsh Government-funded scheme has been running alongside it at the nearby Ewloe roundabout, installing new pedestrian crossings on the A494 slip roads and widening footways under the A494.
Both schemes are being delivered by Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK and were designed with the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent.
