Chester Zoo has unveiled artist’s impressions of The Reserve, its new safari-style lodge accommodation, with bookings now open for stays starting in August 2025.

The 51-lodge wildlife experience promises to offer guests a luxurious retreat, complete with views of a private savannah habitat, home to Northern giraffes.

Some lodges will be positioned by a lakeside, while others provide front-row access to the zoo’s wildlife, allowing guests to wake up to breathtaking natural scenes.

The Reserve aims to blend indulgence with conservation. Chester Zoo’s CEO, Jamie Christon, described the project as a first-of-its-kind experience in the UK.

He said: “It’s so much more than just a short break – it’ll provide guests with unforgettable experiences and bring them face-to-face with extraordinary animals, all while helping to protect the wild world and fund powerful conservation action.”

Guests staying at The Reserve will have the opportunity to enjoy exclusive perks, such as behind-the-scenes animal encounters, talks with conservation experts, and out-of-hours access to the zoo.

Evenings will feature relaxation by a lakeside fire-pit, with stories about the zoo’s efforts to protect species like the eastern black rhino and giant pangolin.

The lodges are constructed using natural, sustainable materials, reflecting the African landscapes where Chester Zoo works to support endangered wildlife.

The resort will also house The Amboseli Restaurant, named after a region in Kenya where the zoo supports lion conservation, and the Tsavo Lounge, a terrace overlooking the lake.

Stays at The Reserve will directly contribute to Chester Zoo’s conservation projects, including efforts in Kenya and Uganda to secure the future of critically endangered species.

Jamie added: “This will be a bucket list stay that also contributes to helping wildlife not only survive, but thrive.”

Bookings opened today, with a variety of packages available to suit different group sizes and interests. More details can be found at www.chesterzoo.org/accommodation.

The official opening of The Reserve is set for mid-August 2025.
