Earlier this year, Alyn and Deeside AM Carl Sargeant wrote to every Welsh local authority to ask them to become corporate supporters of the international White Ribbon campaign.

Flintshire Council became the first in Wales to make the pledge at the end of 2013 and Mr Sargeant hopes the remaining 21 authorities will follow their example – making Wales the first country in the UK to fully support the campaign.

Every local authority has now responded positively and has either signed up to the campaign or is gathering more information.

Mr Sargeant said:

“I am delighted that every council has now responded to our campaign and shown their commitment to ending violence against women.

“It’s thanks to forward-thinking Welsh local authorities that we could become a world leader in the White Ribbon campaign.

“I have extended my request to businesses in Alyn and Deeside and hope they will also join the fight and would like to give my thanks to those who have already made the pledge.”
