Wepre Post Office set for proposed relocation to Shotton

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

The Post Office is seeking public input on a proposal to move Wepre Post Office in Connah’s Quay to a new location approximately 750 metres away in Shotton.

The planned move would relocate services from 92 High Street, Connah’s Quay, to 15 Chester Road West, Shotton, where they would be integrated into a modernised retail space.

According to Post Office Limited, the move is intended to safeguard the future of local postal services and enhance customer access through a purpose-designed facility.

The new branch, occupying the former NatWest Bank premises, is expected to include wider access, modern counters, and features for accessibility, including wheelchair-friendly spaces and a hearing loop.

Why the Change?

In a letter to the community, Sarah Cottrell, Post Office Regional Change Manager, explained that the move is a sustainable step for the long-term viability of the Post Office and the postmaster’s retail business.

“Our priority is to safeguard our services in the locality in the longer term,” the statement reads.

The Post Office website further elaborated on the rationale behind the move, stating:
“As you may be aware, our Partners operate Post Office branches alongside their private retail business, and it is important that they make the very best use of their resources to ensure future sustainability of both their business and the Post Office service. In this case, the postmaster has identified an opportunity to move this branch into an alternative location to continue to offer Post Office services to the local community.”

What’s Changing?

The proposed Shotton Post Office would provide the same range of services as the current branch, including mail, banking, and travel products.

Weekday hours would extend to 5 PM, while Saturday and Sunday timings remain unchanged. The fate of the 24-hour ATM at the current location is undecided.

Consultation Period

A public consultation, open until 10 January 2025, invites residents to share their views on accessibility, travel, and local impacts.

Feedback can be submitted via the online questionnaire at postofficeviews.co.uk, by email to [email protected], or through freepost.

Community Engagement Principles

The consultation adheres to guidelines set by Citizens Advice and other advocacy groups, ensuring all feedback is reviewed before a final decision is made.

Posters and leaflets have been distributed locally to encourage participation.

The Post Office stresses the importance of community input.

“Your feedback is important to us as it will help to inform our decision,” the consultation document states.
