Flintshire Trading Standards have been made aware of a male going door to door in the Shotton area offering to clean people’s cars.

The male tells people that they can pay what they want for the car wash, however after the wash is complete if people are not offering to pay enough money the male becomes verbally aggressive.

Flintshire Trading Standards are advising consumers to be very wary of agreeing to services from traders who are selling or offering services by cold calling, if the service is of poor quality or goes wrong then the trader may prove difficult to locate or to contact.

Consumer Law:

If a trader attempts to sell items or services in a consumer’s home then the ‘Cancellation of Contracts Made in a Consumer’s Home or Place of Work etc Regulations 2008’ applies.

These regulations apply to contracts which are made during both solicited and unsolicited visits at a consumer’s home or workplace, the home of another individual or on an excursion organised by a trader away from his business premises.

This notice must be given if the contract is for £35 or more.

If you are not supplied with a cancellation notice then the contract can be deemed unenforceable.
