Virginia Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway gets its world premiere at Storyhouse Chester

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

A new stage version of Virginia Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway will get its world premiere at Storyhouse in Chester from Friday 29 May.

The production runs in Chester until Saturday 6 June before touring to Harlow Playhouse on 10 and 11 June, Wilton’s Music Hall in London from 16 to 20 June and HOME Manchester from 24 to 26 September.

It has been co-created by director Jen Heyes and Olivier Award-winning writer and performer Kit Green, who plays Clarissa Dalloway alongside other roles.

The new staging combines theatre, film and reinterpretations of Woolf’s 1925 novel, set over the course of a single day.

Mrs Dalloway is a co-production between Storyhouse, Harlow Playhouse and CutToTheChase Productions.

Suzie Henderson, Creative Director at Storyhouse, said: “It’s thrilling having Jen and Kit in the rehearsal room and watching them creating theatrical magic to share with audiences both here in Chester and then in Harlow, London and down the road at HOME in Manchester. With just a fortnight to go, the sense of excitement is building, and I can guarantee this new stage adaptation of Mrs Dalloway is going to be an unforgettable experience.”

Jen Heyes, the production’s director, said: “I hope our Mrs Dalloway will captivate, and resonate with, theatregoers both in Chester, where the production opens in a fortnight’s time, and across the country. I can’t wait.”

Jen Heyes has previously directed Truth to Power Café for London Artists Projects, which has toured internationally including a US premiere at Lincoln Center in New York.

She has also directed Epstein: The Man Who Made The Beatles in Liverpool and the West End, Blood Wedding at Liverpool Playhouse and Tony Teardrop by Esther Wilson.

Kit Green is a founder member of the Duckie collective and has worked across theatre, music, cabaret, comedy and broadcast.

Recent credits include The Faggots and Their Friends Between Revolutions, which played a season at the Park Avenue Armoury in New York in 2025, and the role of Roberta Cowell in Tabby Lamb’s play The Law of Mayhem.

Storyhouse, on Hunter Street in Chester, is an arts centre and charity that houses a library, theatres, a restaurant and an independent cinema.

National press night for Mrs Dalloway is on Tuesday 2 June at 7.30pm.
