Storm Ciarán: Council monitoring wind speeds but no plans to close Flintshire Bride as yet
A yellow weather warning is in effect for Flintshire due to heavy rain from Storm Ciarán until midnight today.
The Met Office has warned of potential travel disruption, a risk of floods affecting properties and infrastructure, and a possible danger to life from fast-flowing water.
With 20-60 mm of rain predicted widely and up to 100 mm in some Welsh uplands, the already saturated ground and blocked drains may worsen conditions.
Storm Ciarán’s impact is predominantly in the south, contrasting with the recent Storm Babet, which caused severe localised flooding and extensive damage to homes due to the overwhelming volume of water.
Flintshire Council has, however, said wind gusts of 55 mph are expected today on the A548 Flintshire Bridge between 2pm and 6pm.
“We will monitor these conditions throughout the day. There are no plans to close the bridge currently.”
The council has said patrols have taken place throughout the night, and critical culverts have been checked.
Planned highway and grounds maintenance has been suspended today (2nd Nov), and “support reallocated to any response required. Patrols and checks will continue throughout the day, with resources allocated where needed.”
No significant issues have been reported with the roads so far today – there is standing water on A541 Denbigh Road, Mold (near Lidl), and B5102 Llay Road, Cefn Y Bedd.
“Flood warning signs have been put in place, and both roads remain open,” the council has said.
Wepre Park has advised people to stay out of woodland areas during the spell of strong winds.
