Spot a Roman soldier in Chester on Tuesday and you could win free Chester Races tickets

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

A Roman soldier will be handing out free tickets to Chester Races in Chester city centre on Tuesday 26 May.

The giveaway is part of the promotion for Chester Racecourse’s annual Roman Day fixture, which takes place on Saturday 30 May.

Twenty golden tickets giving free entry to the Tattersalls enclosure will be handed out at The Cross.

People can also enter a separate draw by taking a selfie with the soldier and posting it on Instagram tagging @chesterraces.

Four tickets to the County Concourse enclosure are on offer in that draw.

Winners will be announced on Thursday 28 May.

Chester is a regular shopping and leisure destination for many Deeside readers, with the racecourse a short drive across the border from Queensferry and Sealand.

Saturday’s fixture is family-themed alongside the racing, with Roman stunt shows, gladiator-themed activities for children, themed crafts and displays from Chester Heritage Festival.

Children under 17 enter free at Chester Racecourse family fun days.

Steve Davies, chief operating officer at Chester Race Company, said: “This year we wanted to bring some of that atmosphere out into the city ahead of race day itself.

“Chester’s Roman heritage is such a huge part of the city’s identity, so people should keep an eye out this Tuesday because spotting one of our Roman soldiers could earn them free tickets to the races.

“Good luck!”

The soldier will only be in the city centre on Tuesday.
