Facebook and to a lesser extend Twitter was alive with comments about an incident involving a man and some sort of weapon outside Asda Queensferry last night (Tuesday 25th November)

Police have confirmed they were called to a disturbance at the store at 9.00pm.

“A man was arrested for affray, procession of an offensive weapon and shoplifting.” a spokesperson said.

One person said they had been locked inside Asda for their own safety while Police dealt with the incident.

Another tweeted:

Social media went into overdrive, as it does, with rumours of a man rampaging through Asda with a gun, clearly not true.

One ‘trusted’ source posted this update on Facebook :

it wasn’t a gun it was a kitchen knife and it was security who were threatened, all customers were kept away from the situation.

We initially thought this tweet was related to the incident:

Screenshot from 2014-11-26 01:03:56It turned out to be a bit ‘red herring’ as Police were tweeting about an anti social behaviour incident at an address in Aston Road they later confirmed.
