The native of Shotton, Deeside saw the night in Blackpool as an opportunity to escape, albeit briefly, from her physically draining treatment regiment.

It offered her a chance to kick back and relax in a warm, welcoming environment, she said:

“This money will allow me to go see my son in Sydney next Christmas,” Evans said. “It’s more than I could have ever asked for. It was a great evening.”

The resilient and strong-willed Gaynor got the knack for bingo from her mother forty years ago and she has been playing ever since, she travelled from Wales with friends to be a part of the event.

Gaynor said she doesn’t get enough time to spend with her friends, especially now that she is in the fourth stage of a six-stage treatment program.

A coach trip to Blackpool and a night out with the ladies enabled the 68-year-old a perfect platform to reminisce with life-long friends, Gaynors win was met by raucous cheers and ovations from the hundreds in attendance.
