Paraglider airlifted from Clwydian Range after Moel Yr Accre accident

A paraglider was rescued from the Clwydian Range after sustaining a lower leg injury near the summit of Moel Yr Accre.
North East Wales Search and Rescue volunteers were called in by North Wales Police on Saturday afternoon to assist the casualty off the hill.
Welsh Ambulance Service crews were already on scene providing casualty care when the rescue team arrived.
The team described the terrain as extremely difficult, with dense gorse making access and extraction challenging.
Volunteers used bush knives to cut a route through the gorse so the casualty could be safely extracted.
A basic rope system was also set up to assist with the evacuation, because of the steep incline.
The casualty was stretchered to a waiting Helimed aircraft for onward transfer to hospital.
Moel Yr Accre is the most southerly peak of the Clwydian Range in Denbighshire, reaching an elevation of around 411 metres.
The peak is popular with paragliders for its unobstructed views and favourable wind conditions.
In a statement on Facebook, North East Wales Search and Rescue said: “Thanks to all involved for another excellent multi-agency effort in challenging terrain.”
The team added: “We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.”
North East Wales Search and Rescue is a volunteer team operating across Flintshire, Denbighshire, Wrexham and parts of Conwy and Powys, on call 24 hours a day every day of the year.
