North Wales Police Choir to compete at Llangollen Eisteddfod

The North Wales Police Choir has been selected to compete at this year’s Llangollen International Eisteddfod, one of the world’s most well-known celebrations of music and culture.
The choir will represent North Wales Police on an international stage when it competes in July, performing alongside choirs and performers from across the globe in the Denbighshire town.
Formed in August 2024, the mixed choir was established to promote positive mental health within the force and to support the use of the Welsh language in the workplace.
The choir has just under 60 members, including serving officers, police staff, volunteers and retired colleagues. Members travel from across the region and rehearse weekly at police headquarters in Colwyn Bay.
In the short time since its formation, the choir has already built a strong reputation. Last year it became the first emergency service choir to compete at the National Eisteddfod in Wrexham and has since performed at a range of events, including the Chief Constable’s Awards and the Emergency Services Carol Service.
Next month, the choir is also due to compete at the North Wales Choir Festival at Venue Cymru in Llandudno.
Conductor Sergeant Arwyn Tudur Jones said:
“We are incredibly proud to be representing North Wales Police at such as renowned international event. The Llangollen International Eisteddfod is a celebration of culture, harmony and friendship, and to be part of it is a real honour for everyone involved in the choir. We hope to do our communities proud both on and off the stage.”
Chief Constable Amanda Blakeman KPM said:
“The Llangollen International Eisteddfod attracts thousands of performers and visitors each year and is internationally recognised for promoting peace and cultural understanding through music and performance.
“I am immensely proud of the choir and their achievements so far. They are wonderful ambassadors for our organisation, showcasing not only their talent and passion, but also the strong sense of community, pride and Welsh identity that runs through North Wales Police.”
Dave Danford, Artistic Director at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod, said:
“Our festival has the highest of standards, so to get through our tough selection process is a major achievement. Previous winners of competitions include Luciano Pavarotti with Corale di Rossini, Modena, Italy so the North Wales Police Choir will be in great company. We look forward to welcoming this outstanding choir to the Pavilion Stage.”
The North Wales Police Choir will compete in the Open Choirs A5 competition on Sunday, 12 July, performing on the 4,000-seat Pavilion stage.
