New council homes built on land which was once home to the former Melrose Centre in Shotton will soon see tenants move in.

The brand new development of five houses and four apartments off Central Drive is the latest scheme under Flintshire County Council’s five-year Strategic Housing and Regeneration Programme known as SHARP.

The Melrose Centre had become a target for vandalism, antisocial behaviour and thieves had stripped the roof of all lead flashing in the months following the closure of the facility.

Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing Cllr. Bernie Attridge, said:

“There is an on-going and urgent need for council housing for affordable rent and as the demand for social and affordable housing in all our communities continues to grow we are determined to provide people with access to social housing of the highest quality.

“Once again I am delighted to visit another new scheme being delivered through the SHARP for the benefit of the local community. All of these schemes provide quality housing and assist a number of households currently on the housing register.”

Cllr. Ron Davies, local member for Higher Shotton said:

“I am absolutely delighted that this much-needed council homes scheme is being delivered in Shotton.  The former Resource Centre site had become neglected but this welcome development will undoubtedly prove to be a great boost and help the local community to thrive.”
