The Flintshire County Council has announced the appointment of Councillor Gladys Healey as its new Chair.

Councillor Healey, who represents the Hope electoral division, will be assisted in her duties by Councillor Dennis Hutchinson, who has been appointed Vice Chair.

Councillor Healey, serving the council since May 2017, is an experienced public servant with a deep-rooted connection to the community.

She has lived in Hope for 37 years, and her dedication to the county extends to her work as a Governor of Castell Alun High School and Ysgol Estyn.

Her husband, Councillor David Healey, who represents the Caergwle electoral division, will be her consort.

Upon her appointment, Councillor Healey expressed her gratitude and commitment to the role. “I am very proud to be elected as Chair of Flintshire County Council for the coming year,” she said.

“It is a great honour to represent such an incredible county.

“I will undertake my duties as Chair to the best of my ability and I will represent Flintshire with pride.”

Joining her in leadership is Councillor Dennis Hutchinson, representing the Buckley Pentrobin electoral division.

As one of the four original County Councillors elected to the county council in 1995, Councillor Hutchinson brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

His lifelong residency in Flintshire, including in Sychdyn and Buckley, further strengthens his ties to the community.

He is also a Governor of Drury School and Elfed High School. His wife, Jeanne, will serve as his consort.

“I am honoured to be elected as Vice Chair of Flintshire County Council,” Councillor Hutchinson stated. “I congratulate Councillor Healey on her election as Chair and I am committed to supporting her throughout the coming year.”
