Heading into Chester this summer? Here is what police are doing to keep people safe

Cheshire Police have launched a summer safety campaign in Chester targeting drugs, disorderly behaviour and violence against women and girls.
The campaign, called Keeping Chester Safe – With you. For you, was launched on Tuesday 19 May ahead of the Chester race season and the city’s busiest summer weekends.
Officers will work alongside pubs, bars, door staff and licensing officers across the city centre, with resource packs being distributed to licensed premises.
Venues will run the Ask for Angela scheme, a discreet code word system that lets anyone feeling unsafe approach staff and be helped to leave or get assistance.
Inspector James Wilson, from Chester’s Neighbourhood Policing Team, said:
“Chester is a safe city to visit and has a vibrant and popular night-time economy, particularly at weekends, during race days and across the summer months. From venue queues and transport routes to fast food outlets and pubs, officers are working with door staff, bar teams and businesses to ensure those enjoying a night out in Chester are kept safe.
“Our message is clear. Women and girls should feel safe when attending the city, and police and partners are working together to provide accessible support, including Ask for Angela, discreet materials in licensed premises and information about how to report concerns or seek help.
“Drugs will not be tolerated, and we run regular enforcement operations with partners to target these offences. There will also be visible patrols and enforcement action targeting alcohol fuelled disorder and anti-social behaviour.”
Insp Wilson said anyone who feels unsafe or witnesses concerning behaviour can speak to venue staff, approach officers on patrol, or report concerns through normal police channels.
