gap Connah’s Quay are holding an opening evening at the Deeside campus of Coleg Cambria for the 2015-16 football scholarship programme next week, Thursday March 19 starting at 8pm

The gap Coleg Cambria Scholarship programme is an opportunity for any young, talented footballer who aims to make it in the Welsh Premier League or at a higher level in football, as well as ensuring a first class education in their chosen field.

The programme kicks off its second season following a highly successful first season this year.

The programme is based on the American “student/athlete” model, with football being used as the motivator for players to excel both on the field and in the classroom, players will have the opportunity to take any Level 2/3 diploma offered at the college on the Scholarship, as well as any AS and A Levels.

The open evening will include a presentation from Jay Catton, who will be running the programme, alongside Scholarship Coach, Daniel Reece, there will be a presentation from Coleg Cambria staff to explain the programme from the academic side.

In it’s first season, the scholarship programme has seen;

  • All 17 players remain on the programme (not a single drop out).  Al on now lower than Level 3 diplomas or A Levels
  • All 17 players have work complete, and up to daye and all boast over a 95% attendace record in the classroom
  • Two players have gained professional trals with Rochdale and Nottingham Forest
  • The side currently sit second in the college league and have made it to the Semi Final of the National Cup
  • Four scholars have been selected to represent Wales at U18 Level
  • Five scholars have represented The Nomads’ first team in the Welsh Premier League or Welsh Cup
