Four nights of overnight A494 slip closures coming to Ewloe in June

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

Traffic Wales has confirmed four consecutive nights of overnight slip road closures at Ewloe Interchange next month, running from Monday 15 June to Friday 19 June.

Each closure will run from 7.30pm in the evening to 6am the following morning.

All four A494 slip roads at the interchange and the A55 outer loop towards the A494 will be closed in sequence across the four-night window, rather than all at once.

Diversions will run two ways depending on which slip is closed.

Drivers using the A494 westbound off-slip, the A494 eastbound on-slip and the A55 outer loop towards the A494 will be diverted westbound along the A55 to Junction 33 at Northop, then back on the eastbound carriageway.

Drivers using the A494 westbound on-slip and the A494 eastbound off-slip will be diverted along the A494 eastbound to the Queensferry exit, then back along the A494 westbound.

The closures are part of the Active Travel Improvements scheme on the B5125 between Ewloe roundabout and St David’s roundabout.

That scheme has been in progress since 25 January 2026 and was originally scheduled to finish at the end of May.

Traffic Wales has now said the work is expected to finish in late July, around two months later than planned, citing what it called “unforeseen on-site engineering difficulties.”

It has not said what those difficulties are.

A standing inner lane closure of Ewloe roundabout, in place 24 hours a day since January, will continue until the scheme is finished, along with lane closures on the A494 Ewloe westbound and eastbound off-slips.

Traffic Wales said disruption was expected during peak periods.

Separately, Flintshire County Council has confirmed a daytime closure of the B5125 The Highway between St David’s roundabout and Carlines Avenue, running from 9.30am on Tuesday 26 May until 6pm on Friday 29 May.
