Former Lloyds Bank in Shotton to become Specsavers under planning proposals

The former Lloyds Bank branch on Chester Road West in Shotton is to become a Specsavers Opticians, according to planning documents submitted to Flintshire County Council.
The unit at 39 Chester Road West has been vacant since Lloyds Bank closed its Shotton branch on 13 March 2024.
The closure was part of a Lloyds Banking Group programme announced in late 2023.
The planning application, submitted on Specsavers’ behalf by Fisch Design Ltd, seeks consent for new air conditioning equipment to the rear of the building.

A separate consent application covers new shopfront signage, including an aluminium fascia, an illuminated logo and lettering, and a projecting sign.
Documents submitted with the application say the new air conditioning is needed to meet the standards set by the NHS sight test contract that Specsavers operates under, with separate climate-controlled rooms required for optical testing.
The rear of the building already has air conditioning equipment in place from a previous tenant, which would be removed and replaced under the proposals.
The application is under consideration by Flintshire County Council.
