A Flintshire teenager has been named Flintshire Young Ambassador of the Year 2025 after being recognised for his contribution to youth sport and volunteering in his local community.

Ethan Trevor, 15, from Aston, received the award through the Youth Sport Trust Wales Young Ambassador programme, which is funded and supported by Sport Wales and the National Lottery.

Ethan has volunteered with Gwella Sport Development for the past two years, supporting extra-curricular school sports clubs and community activity across Flintshire.

He began volunteering at the age of 13 and has since taken on a range of roles working with younger children and supporting local delivery teams.

Alongside his school-based volunteering, Ethan has helped deliver Fit, Fed and Read sessions during the summer holidays, supporting children and families to take part in sport and activity in a fun and inclusive environment.

He has also volunteered at regional and national sporting events, including activity delivered in partnership with the Football Association of Wales, and attended the Gareth Bale Festival of Sport in Newport.

Speaking after receiving the award, Ethan said:
“I first met the Gwella Sports Development Team when I started high school in 2021. Two years ago I was given the chance to volunteer with the Fit, Fed and Read scheme, which led to me joining the youth ambassador team.

“Being involved since I was 13 has boosted my confidence and helped me develop leadership skills that will support me in college and future job opportunities.”

Gwella Sport Development currently supports 42 young volunteers and ambassadors across Flintshire, all of whom are involved in extra-curricular activity in schools and local communities.

A spokesperson for Gwella Sport Development said:
“Ethan is a fantastic example of how young people can develop confidence, leadership and real-world skills when they are supported to get involved locally.”
