A 26-year-old Flintshire man has been jailed for domestic violence offences.

Niall Lewis, of Ffordd Brannan, Alltami, appeared at Mold Crown Court on Thursday (October 26th) where he was sentenced to two years and three months after being found guilty of actual bodily harm and admitting an offence of non-fatal strangulation.

The incident happened at the victim’s home on the morning of December 26th last year.

Following an altercation, Lewis pushed her to the floor, before placing his hands around her neck in a tight grip, until she was unable to breathe.

Despite the victim attempting to escape, Lewis’ aggressive behaviour and violence continued until she eventually managed to get out of the house and call for help.

He was later arrested and remanded into custody until sentencing today.

Lewis, who was previously found guilty of battery and criminal damage towards the same victim, was also issued a five-year restraining order against the victim today.

Civilian Investigator Ann Parry, investigating officer on the case, said: “I commend the bravery and strength of this victim for coming forward and for showing such courage throughout the investigation, which has led to today’s result.

“We are committed to ensuring reports of violence against women and girls are thoroughly investigated and we will continue to bring offenders to justice.

“If you or someone you know is suffering from domestic violence and can find the courage to come forward, please get in touch with us. We have dedicated officers who are specially trained to support you.”
