A Flintshire Assembly Member has backed Ukip’s Assembly leader Neil Hamilton following ‘sexist’ remarks made during his debut speech in the Senedd on Wedensday.

Disgraced ex-Tory MP Hamilton caused uproar when he launched an attack on Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood AM and Liberal Democrat AM Kirsty Williams calling them “political concubines in Carwyn’s harem”

Ukip’s newly appointed North Wales AM Michelle Brown said the furore over Hamilton’s remarks was just “faux outrage” in an attempt to divert attention away from Plaid’s “shameful betrayal of the people” after the party struck a deal with Welsh Labour which paved the way for Carwyn Jones’ reappointment as Assembly Leader.

Hamilton, leader of Ukip’s seven Assembly Members left fellow AM’s shocked with his unprecedented, by Assembly standards, tirade claiming the two female AM’s had joined the first minister’s ‘harem’.

On Twitter Leanne Wood said: “There’s no place for sexism in our National Assembly. Not prepared to accept racism or homophobia either. Be warned” while Kirsty Williams tweet nodded towards Mr Hamilton’s murky ‘cash for questions’ past after he himself accused AM’s of ‘dodgy deals’ she said “The blatant sexist language was bad enough but Neil Hamilton actually talked about dodgy deals with a straight face”

Alyn and Deeside AM Carl Sargeant said “his contribution was insulting”

Flintshire AM Michelle Brown a legal advisor from Mostyn, fought for the Alyn and Deeside seat in the recent Assembly election, despite coming third with around 17% of the vote she was elected to the Senedd through the North Wales regional list.

Commenting on Mr Hamilton’s remarks Ms Brown told Deeside.com;

“Neil made the important point that the majority of the Welsh electorate voted against Labour a couple of weeks ago & clearly wanted a change in government.

After spending the election campaign promising that change, Plaid’s first act was to prop up a shambolic Labour administration that has spent 17 years giving us a masterclass in how to mismanage Wales.

That they have done so in return for so little when they had an opportunity to achieve so much more is a shameful betrayal of the people who voted for them – particularly in the Rhondda.

Neil expressed his opinion about the political virtue of those who had decided to sell their electorate short despite the lofty promises they made.  The faux outrage is just an attempt to divert attention from that.

What genuinely outrages people is feeling they’ve been lied to and betrayed, and that is precisely what Plaid have done in supporting Labour.”

Mr Hamilton’s debut in at the Assembly even merited it’s own twitter ‘moment’ a rarity for Wales.
