Jurgita Allen, 35 from Connah’s Quay was recently crowned winner of the Hair Council Student of the Year 2017, in association with L’Oreal Professionnel and VTCT.

Coleg Cambria’s Hairdressing student, Jurgita beat tough rivalry to win the competition for the second consecutive year.
Following a photographic competition, judged by Patrick Cameron, Andrew Barton and Jamie Stevens, eight Level 2 and eight Level 3 students contested the final.

Jurgita, who is the first person to win the competition two years in a row won the Level 2 last year and went on to win Level 3 this year.

The practical final for the competition took place at L’Oréal Studios in Hammersmith where the finalists had to recreate their original photographic look and contestants were also interviewed about their work and the work of the Hair Council, judged by Southern Hairdresser of the Year, Anne Veck, Sean Hanna’s Artistic Director and Session Stylist, Yesmin O’Brien as well as Jayne Schauenburg, a previous winner herself and Hairdressing Educator.

Jurgita, who as a result of winning received a day shadowing celebrity hairdresser Andrew Barton and a career guided lunch with Sophia Hilton as well as afternoon tea at the House of Commons, said:

I am so proud and pleased to have won the Hair Council Student of the Year for the second year in a row!

This last year has opened so many opportunities and has enabled me to grow as a Stylist and as a person.

I am proud to use SRH after my name and have so much more awareness of the importance of state registration which I have been promoting within my college, workplace and on social media.

I am looking forward to the year ahead and the opportunities that may arise from winning this amazing competition again.

Deputy Director for Hair and Beauty at Coleg Cambria Deeside, Julie Guzzo said:

We are so incredibly proud of Jurgita, it’s such an achievement for her to be the first ever to be awarded The Hair Council Student of the Year two years in a row. We wish her the very best for a bright future within the industry.
