DJ turned university lecturer is latest guest on Full Disclosure podcast

A DJ and broadcaster turned university lecturer is the latest guest to appear on James O’Brien’s acclaimed podcast, Full Disclosure.

Graeme Park, Senior Lecturer in Creative Media at Wrexham University, is the latest guest on the LBC host’s weekly podcast, where he shares insights from his diverse career and his role at the University.

Graeme is one of the pioneers of the UK’s house music movement and best known for his nine-year residency at Manchester’s iconic superclub, The Hacienda. He has been lecturing at the University since 2008.

During the episode, Graeme talks about how all of the defining moments in his career came about by accident.

He said: “I became a DJ by accident, I ended up on the radio by accident, becoming a Senior Lecturer by accident. When I get an opportunity and I think – oh, I like this and it appears I’m pretty good at it, I will grab onto it with two hands and make sure that I can then keep that position.

“That’s what I tell my students – I point out [to them], don’t get too hung up on what you want to do but if you get an opportunity and you like it, then you need to grab it and work at it, and that’s what I’ve done all my life.”

Graeme joins a lineup of previous notable guests on the podcast, including Sir Keir Starmer, Angela Rayner, The Archbishop of Canterbury, and James Blunt, to name a few.

Speaking about being asked to appear as a guest on Full Disclosure, he said: “It was amazing to be asked to appear on the podcast – for a couple of reasons really, the fact that previous guests have been really massive names, so I couldn’t believe that he wanted to speak to me of all people but also I’m a fan of James, I’m a regular listener of his weekday morning show on LBC.

“It was a pleasure to speak to him – and what was nice was that before the recording I didn’t know what he was going to ask me, which I always prefer.

“I find that approach more enjoyable – and I think it makes for a more interesting experience as a listener.”
