Darren Jeffreys gets life for murdering Gwernaffield woman Karen Catherall

Darren John Jeffreys, 47, of has been jailed for life at Mold Crown Court today for the murder of his girlfriend from Gwernaffield near Mold.

Jeffrey’s who met mother-of-two Karen Catherall on a dating website, admitted the killing back in December.

Police found the body of the victim at her Gwernaffield home in the early hours on Sunday 14 September 2014, she had been strangled and had suffered head injuries. 

Karen had died from “mechanical asphyxia” and a “blunt force head injury” the county coroner concluded.

Jefferys was arrested soon after the discovery of Karen, he was later charged with her murder.

Mr Justice Wyn Williams sentenced Jeffreys to life imprisonment and told he must serve a minimum of 17-and-a-half years.
