Cycling club pays tribute to the late Carol Boardman

Birkenhead North End cycling club paid tribute to the late Carol Boardman this morning, a week after the tragic accident in Connah’s Quay which claimed her life.

Cyclist Carol mum of Olympic gold medalist Chris Boardman, died in the early hours of Sunday morning from injuries she sustained in a collision with a car while riding her bike last Saturday afternoon, June16.

Friends, family and fellow cyclists have been leaving flowers and tributes at the scene of the accident near the roundabout on Mold Road and Llanarth Road.

Earlier in the week police renewed an appeal for witnesses following the collision last Saturday.

Chief Insp Darren Wareing of North Wales Police Road Policing Unit said:

“Shortly before 2pm on Saturday, a collision took place between a pedal cyclist and white Mitsubishi L200 pick up on the Mold Road and Llanarth Road roundabout in Connah’s Quay.

“Despite the best efforts of first attendees and other medical staff, cyclist Carol Boardman sadly passed away a short time later in hospital.

“Her family are being supported by police family liaison specialists.

“A full and complex investigation is now underway which will include a forensic examination of the scene, vehicle and bike and interviewing witnesses who can help us build a full picture.

“We have already spoken with a number of people, including the driver of the Mitsubishi.

“However if you were in the area at the time and witnessed the collision or any events leading up to it to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 and quote RC1610 4385.”
