Community Benefit from Active Cambria Initiative

Coleg Cambria recently launched a community athletics initiative to help local primary school children enjoy athletics as part of their school day and as an after school activity.

Over 60 children from Ysgol Bryn Deva, Connah’s Quay came to the college to enjoy a session of fun run, jump and throw activities delivered by the level 2 sports students.

The level 2 and 3 Sports students have also taken the lead on the Junior Athletics sessions which is for 5yr olds up to 9yrs at the Athletics Centre.  These sessions are held on a Monday night 6pm till 7pm for £4 per session and a multisport session on Wednesday 6pm till 7pm free of charge, however weekly donations to Wales Air Ambulance is required.  The multi-sport session is funded by ‘GwirVol’, a partnership of organisations in Wales who represent and promotes youth volunteering through all of its projects.

Sports student Jacob Brown, from Flint who helps deliver the programmes said:

‘’It’s so much fun coaching the children whilst also helping me to develop my coaching skills’’
