Cllr Paul Beacher takes up Mold’s mayoral chain

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

Councillor Paul Beacher has been elected Mayor of Mold for 2025/26 following the town council’s Annual Meeting held on Wednesday 7 May.

Cllr Jo Edwards was also appointed as Deputy Mayor for the coming year.

Cllr Beacher, who represents Mold East Ward, said he was “truly honoured” to have been elected and spoke warmly of his connection to the town and his journey into public service.

“I started as a volunteer with Mold Town Council at town events,” he said.

“I then decided to run for election as I wanted to be able to serve my community even further. One of my proudest moments, until today, was when I was elected as Town Councillor.

Today, being elected as Mayor has topped this. It is truly humbling.”

He paid tribute to the outgoing Mayor, Councillor Brian Lloyd, describing it as a “privilege” to have worked alongside him.

He added: “I have learnt a lot from Brian.”

During his term as Mayor, Cllr Beacher plans to raise funds through the Mayoral Appeal, with a particular focus on supporting Mold residents affected by breast cancer.

He also pledged to continue promoting local businesses and events throughout the year.

“As previous Mayors have done, I will endeavour to raise awareness and funds for my chosen charities and organisations, as well as promoting Mold,” he said. “It really is a wonderful place to live, work and enjoy.”

Outgoing Mayor Cllr Brian Lloyd reflected on what he described as an “incredible” year in office, his second time serving as Mayor after a previous term in 2015.

“This year has surpassed my first time,” he said. “I have met some wonderful, amazing people throughout my year.”

Cllr Lloyd expressed his gratitude to council officers, fellow councillors and the community, and announced that his Mayoral Appeal had raised £10,000.

The funds will benefit Mold Community Gardens and Clubhouse, the Daniel Owen Community Association and Hope House Mold Friends Group.

On stepping down, he offered his congratulations to the new Mayor and Deputy, saying: “On behalf of Jean and I, I would like to wish Paul and his Consort Eira a wonderful year, and also congratulate Cllr Jo Edwards.”
