Police have launched an appeal for information following vandalism at Bryn Road Cemetery in Connah’s Quay, which has caused distress to many local families and prompted widespread outrage in the community.

Officers are investigating the damage and urging anyone with information to come forward.

A police spokesperson said: “We believe someone within the community may have knowledge that could assist our inquiries. If you have any details that may help, please contact us and quote reference number C021575.”

The incident has sparked a furious reaction from local residents, who have described the act as “disgusting” and “beyond disrespectful.”

Many have called for tougher security measures, including locking the cemetery gates at night and installing CCTV.

One resident said: “This is absolutely heartbreaking for the families affected. How could anyone do this?”

Golftyn Councillor Dave Richardson has criticised Flintshire County Council’s response to the incident, saying he struggled to get hold of officials from Streetscene and Bereavement Services over the weekend.

After escalating the matter to the leader of the council, he was left frustrated by the response.

“I explained the severity of the damage and the police involvement,” Richardson said. “A stonemason was there first thing this morning carrying out a repair, but by rights, he should have a permit to work. He was doing someone a favour and went early for that reason. I explained to the council leader that’s why I needed to speak to Bereavement Services, so I could advise people correctly.”

Cllr Richardson said he was “absolutely speechless” when the council leader responded: “It’s the weekend, you won’t get hold of anyone. Use a bit of common sense. Just tell them to do what they want, and if there’s any problem, tell them I said that.”

The councillor called the situation “embarrassing” and apologised to those affected.

As police continue their investigation, community members are urging anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.
