A55 in Chester reopens following serious crash overnight

The A55 in Chester was closed over night due to a serious collision.

The crash took place on the eastbound carriageway between the A51 and M53 junction.

Police first reported the collision just after 12.30am.

Cheshire Fire & Rescue say Three fire engines attended – one from Chester and two from Ellesmere Port.

“Shortly after 00.15am firefighters from Chester and Ellesmere Port were called to reports of a one vehicle collision on the A55 in Huntington.”

“Firefighters attended the scene and found that one man was trapped in a van which had overturned on the carriageway.”

“The team used specialist cutting equipment to release the casualty and he was passed to the care of paramedics.”

Crews were detained at the scene for approximately one hour ten minutes.

Diversions were put in place while emergency services including accident investigators remained at the scene for around six hours.

The road reopened at around 6.30am

There are no details as yet if there has been any casualties.
