A lorry carrying heavy duty plant machinery has been left stranded under the railway bridge on Shotton High Street.

The incident happened just after rush hour on Wednesday evening, diversions where quickly set up as Police taped the area off to pedestrians and blocked the road to traffic going past the lorry.

Part of the digger which was being transported struck the bridge at it was travelling towards Queensferry, the windows of the tractor cab were smashed as it was shunted sideways leaving it precariously perched on the HGV trailer in a dangerous position.

Trains were delayed for a while as engineers from Network Rail inspected the bridge, the line was quickly reopened once the all clear was given.

Police at the scene said they were awaiting an assessment of the situation before working out how to move the lorry and its dangerously balanced load.

The main road through Shotton was still closed at 8:15pm tonight, updates ‘as and when’
