SHOTTON: Police appeal for witnesses after man sustained serious stab wounds in “shocking” incident

Police are appealing for information after a man sustained serious stab wounds in Deeside yesterday.

The incident happened on open ground near Bridge Street, Shotton just before 6pm when a man was attacked.

The victim, who is from Merseyside and in his twenties, was flown by Helimed to hospital in Stoke, where he is being treated for serious stab wounds. His condition is described as stable.

DI Mark Hughes said;

“This was a shocking incident in which a man has been seriously wounded.

We will be conducting enquires in the area and deploying reassurance patrols.

In the meantime I am appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to contact us.”

A police cordon was still in place this morning around the rough track between Dock Road and Hawarden Bridge, officers guarding the scene are preventing cyclists and walkers using tarmac section through the trees.

A large number of police vehicles were seen in the area on Thursday evening, two armed response units also responded to the emergency, officers carrying weapons were spotted by those residents living close by.

One man who lives locally said a Wales Air Ambulance landed near his house at around 6.20pm on Thursday evening, he saw a number of police vehicles by Shotton Train Station, and up to eight police vehicles and ambulances in a neighbouring street.

The resident said he also saw armed response officers walking by the railway station with “guns out heading towards river.”

The Air Ambulance took off from open ground close to Bridge Street around 30 minutes after landing.

Another local resident said he was stopped from walking over the bridge to the open ground behind Bridge Street, police tape has been tied across the stairway opening preventing public access.

Two crime scene investigation units attended the scene of the incident as forensic work got underway.

Officers are asking anyone in the area at the time with any information to call 101 quoting reference number V140551.
