Following a series of distraction burglaries in Deeside targeting elderly and vulnerable people, police have been carrying out high visibility foot and vehicle patrols.

Operation Lemongrass has involved officers supported by Flintshire Neighbourhood Wardens.

As well as targeting offenders, they have also been meeting residents to advise on security and dealing with with cold callers.

PC Mike Wilson, who co-ordinated the patrols, said;

“This has been a very successful operation. Since we began these patrols there has been a significant reduction in this type of offence.

“I would advise anyone dealing with cold callers not to let them into your house.  If you have a spy hole in your door or a door chain, please use them.

“Ask to see the caller’s identity card and check it carefully. Genuine callers won’t mind this. If in doubt, close your door”.

Anyone with information about bogus callers should call North Wales Police on 101, or Crimestoppers on Tel: 0800 555 111.
