NCA: hear or see anything unusual around your local airfield?

Project Pegasus is a multi-agency campaign encouraging the public and law enforcement partners to join the fight against serious and organised crime and terrorism by reporting unusual activity around small aviation sites.

Delivered by the NCA, UK police forces and UK Border Force, the campaign encourages people close to small airports to report unusual activity and threats and vulnerabilities associated with general aviation.

The campaign covers all aviation with the exception of commercial passenger flights and large-scale airfreight. 
 
General aviation includes aircraft such as microlights, helicopters, and business jets, and activities such as aerial surveys, deliveries, corporate flights, and parachuting.

The UK has:

• More than 3000 aerodromes, small airfields, farmers’ field strips, and helipads; 
• 47,000 Civil Aviation Authority-licensed pilots; and  
• nearly 20,000 light aircraft.

Around 90,000 general aviation flights come into the UK every year.

Serious and organised criminals and terrorists can exploit this for crimes ranging from illegal immigration, importing hard drugs such as cocaine and amphetamines, and trafficking firearms.

With help from the public and partners, we can gather more intelligence on how organised criminals and terrorists exploit general aviation, pursue and disrupt them, and strengthen the industry’s ability to deal with the threats.
