Welsh Ambulance Service backs endometriosis scheme

The Welsh Ambulance Service has pledged to become an Endometriosis Friendly Employer.
The Trust has signed up to a scheme run by Endometriosis UK, committing to support staff with the condition and to challenge taboos around menstrual health in the workplace.
Endometriosis is a condition where cells similar to those in the lining of the womb grow in other parts of the body.
It affects one in 10 women and those assigned female at birth from puberty to menopause, although the impact may be felt for life.
Symptoms vary and can include pelvic pain, heavy menstrual bleeding, painful bowel movements and fatigue.
Many people with endometriosis also experience significant bloating around the time of their period.
Kathryn Cobley, the Trust’s Head of Inclusion and Engagement, said: “Endometriosis can have a profound impact on daily life, yet it is often misunderstood or not talked about openly.
“By signing up to the Endometriosis UK scheme, we’re committing to breaking down taboos around menstrual health, raising awareness and ensuring colleagues affected by the condition feel listened to and supported in a meaningful way.
“Becoming an Endometriosis Friendly Employer is an important step in making sure our people feel understood, supported and able to thrive at work.”
Emma Cox, Chief Executive of Endometriosis UK, added: “I’m delighted to welcome the Welsh Ambulance Service to the diverse range of organisations tackling taboos around menstrual health and endometriosis through the Endometriosis Friendly Employer scheme.
“By showing its team that they are valued and can expect support and reasonable adjustments to help those with endometriosis and menstrual conditions to succeed at work, they will be increasing engagement across the whole of their workforce, ultimately making the organisation more successful.”
As part of the scheme, the Trust will appoint Endometriosis Champions who will receive training from Endometriosis UK to provide support and information to staff.
