Talk to Mark International Women’s Day at Wrexham Glyndwr University
A talk marking the achievements of women throughout history will lead celebrations for International Women’s Day at Wrexham Glyndwr University.
Dr Jan Green, senior lecturer at North Wales Business School, is key note speaker for the admission-free, open-to-all event at 6pm on Wednesday 8th March 2017.
The theme for International Women’s Day 2017 is #Be Bold for Change, with a call to help forge a better working world in a more prompt manner than the one currently predicted.
The World Economic Forum estimates that the gender gap won’t change entirely until 2186.
Dr Green’s talk will focus on selected examples of where women have experienced a bold moment, what they did, what difference it made, and what others can learn from boldness.
Event organiser Claire Blanchard said: “On International Women’s Day, we celebrate the inspiring and courageous work women around the world are doing to secure women’s rights and shape more tolerant and equitable societies.
“We also reflect on the work that remains and remember the many women whose voices go unheard and who continue to be excluded from realizing their full potential.”
As an admirer of young women being presented with opportunities, Dr Green has selected an ultimate example – ruling a nation, where she is struck by longevity, amition, singlemindedness, in some cases verging on ruthlessness of women occupying those roles.
The talk will also reveal more about the remarkable Clare Hollingworth who died earlier this year at the age of 105. She filed the most recent scoop of the century just four days after being employed as a rookie journalist for the Daily Telegraph.
Finally Jan will bring us up to date with a contemporary story about one of our post-graduate students who exhibited all that is encompassed in being bold for change.
A Q&A session and debate will follow the talk, which will be held in the 1887 Restaurant. The event will be opened by Wrexham Glyndwr University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maria Hinfelaar.
