Sports clubs across Wales impacted by recent extreme weather are being urged to apply for financial assistance through the Storm Damage Fund, which is now open for applications.

The fund offers grants ranging from £300 to £5,000 to help clubs clean and repair facilities damaged by storms.

Applications must be submitted by 4pm on Tuesday, 17th December, via the online Grants Portal.

Who Can Apply?

The fund is open to all not-for-profit sports clubs in Wales that have suffered storm damage.

This includes clubs that have already benefitted from the Be Active Wales Fund earlier this year.

Applicants are required to provide the following:

  • Estimated repair costs
  • Insurance details, if applicable
  • At least one photograph evidencing the damage

What Can the Funding Cover?

Clubs can use the grants to cover a wide range of repair and cleaning costs, including:

  • Cleaning and debris removal
  • Equipment and facility repairs
  • Infrastructure, flooring, and pitch restoration
  • Repairs to utilities, such as water and electricity
  • Replacement of damaged fixtures, furniture, and white goods

Retrospective claims for costs already incurred are also eligible for funding consideration.

However, the fund does not cover loss of income.

For any needs not covered by the Storm Damage Fund, applicants are encouraged to explore the Be Active Wales Fund and A Place for Sport funding programmes, both of which remain open.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted online through the Grants Portal, where clubs can register for an account if they haven’t already.

Multi-sport organisations are advised to coordinate with affiliated clubs to avoid duplicating applications.

Timelines and Support

Applicants will receive a decision on their funding request within four weeks of submission.

This initiative aims to help sports clubs recover quickly from the impact of storms, ensuring facilities can reopen and continue serving their communities.
